Kipinästä Liekki – From Spark to Flame!
FinnSpark Christmas Bazaar
held at the River Road Unitarian Church
Saturday November 17, 2007
Photo on left: H.E. Pekka Lintu, Ambassador of Finland to the US, and Marianne Pärssinen President of Finn Spark, Inc. cutting the ribbon for the opening of the 2007 Finnish Christmas Bazaar.
In his speech, Ambassador Lintu warmly welcomed the visitors, encouraged them to do lots of shopping and challenged the members of Finn Spark to exceed their last year’s profits.
There were over 1000 visitors who enjoyed shopping for Finnish baked goods, books, crafts and glassware, and after shopping, enjoyed spending some time in the friendly cafeteria sampling a wide variety of Christmas goodies and glogg. A great addition to the festive atmosphere was the Finnish music played by the Skandal music group.
Last year this fairly small but very energetic group donated $15,350 of the proceeds to needy organizations in the U.S. and in Finland. The members of Finn Spark are again looking forward to sharing their profits from this year’s very successful bazaar. Most of the grants are allocated to organizations that care for the elderly and children as well as some scholarships to educational institutions
Deadline for the applications is January 31, 2008. They should be mailed to Finn Spark Inc. c/o M. Parssinen , 4501 Arlington Blvd. #519.Arlington, VA 22203.
Finn Spark, also known as Kipina Kerho, will celebrate its 60th Anniversary in 2009.
Marianne Pärssinen
President
