Members of Finn Spark and Finlandia Foundation National Capital Chapter Honored
May 27, 2009, Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, awarded a Cross of Merit of the Order of the White Rose of Finland to four past presidents of Finn Spark (Kipina-Kerho) for their endeavors of many years to cultivate closer relations between Finland and the United States and to advance knowledge of Finnish culture in the U.S. The honored recipients are Saga Rinta, Ritva Rauanheimo-Butrum, Pirkko Saarinen-Fanelli and Marianne Parssinen.
Also on May 27, 2009, President Halonen awarded the insignia of the Knight of the Order of the Lion of Finland to Ossi Rahkonen, who is the current president of Finlandia Foundation National Capital Chapter as well as a Trustee on Finlandia Foundation National.
Marianne Parssinen has also served on the Board of Finlandia Foundation National for several years as well as a President of Finlandia Foundation National Capital Chapter.
These awards were presented to honorees on June 16 2009 by His Excellency, Pekka Lintu, the Ambassador of Finland and his wife, Mrs. Laurel Colless at a dinner reception in their residence.
Family members and friends were also invited to this jubilant occasion.
